Permanent Driver's License Suspensions
If you are convicted of traffic tickets while your driver’s license is suspended, that can ultimately lead to a permanent suspension of your driver’s license. This mens that you may have to wait a requisite period of time before you can even apply to get your driver’s license back. If you have multiple convictions of DWLR or moving violations, then you have a couple options:
- Get a Limited Driving Privilege. You may be eligible for a limited driving privilege so long as your convictions did not involve alcohol related offenses and you have waited a required period of time since your last conviction date. This often allows people to travel to and from work and to drive for the purpose of maintaining their household – like grocery shopping, daycare trips, etc.
- Request a DMV Restoration Hearing. After a certain period of time, you will become eligible to request a DMV hearing to determine if the DMV will be willing to reinstate your driver’s license. It will require you and two witnesses to appear for the hearing and argue to the DMV why you should have your driver’s license reinstated.
