Indefinite Suspensions of Your Driver's License

Often, driver’s licenses get revoked because of unpaid court costs or unresolved tickets.  When you fail to show up to court, a Failure to Appear (FTA) is reported to the North Carolina DMV.  The DMV then places a suspension on your driver’s license until you resolve that matter.  Certainly, taking care of indefinite suspensions on your driving record can bring you closer to reinstating your driver’s license, but the way in which you handle indefinite suspensions is crucial to whether or not your driver’s license suspension is lifted.  Sometimes, merely paying off tickets can make the problem worse and increase your suspension.  It is important to consult with Seagroves Legal about what steps need to be taken to reinstate your license and how to take them.  Contact us today for a free review of your driving record!

Permanent Driver's License Suspensions

If you are convicted of traffic tickets while your driver’s license is suspended, that can ultimately lead to a permanent suspension of your driver’s license.  This mens that you may have to wait a requisite period of time before you can even apply to get your driver’s license back.  How quickly you can start driving again depends on the reason you were placed under a permanent suspension.

If you have multiple convictions of DWLR or moving violations, then you have a couple options:

  1. Get a Limited Driving Privilege.  You may be eligible for a limited driving privilege so long as your convictions did not involve alcohol related offenses and you have waited a required period of time since your last conviction date.  This often allows people to travel to and from work and to drive for the purpose of maintaining their household – like grocery shopping, daycare trips, etc.
  2. Request a DMV Restoration Hearing.  After a certain period of time, you will become eligible to request a DMV hearing to determine if the DMV will be willing to reinstate your driver’s license.  It will require you and two witnesses to appear for the hearing and argue to the DMV why you should have your driver’s license reinstated.  An attorney like Candace Seagroves can prove very beneficial in this role as she has done numerous hearings of this nature.

Determining your eligibility of either option, and then deciding which is best, requires an attorney to know how to read your driving record.  Seagroves Legal is very skilled in reading and assessing driving records and she can advise you on what options may be best and how you can get back behind the wheel quickly.
